ACT Boot Camp​

12 students attended this boot camp in conjunction with Team 36 from Oxford, MS. Students were given the tools and test taking skills to better tackle the standardized test.

The Marks Project coordinated a five-hour ACT Prep Boot Camp at M. S. Palmer last Saturday with 39 participants! Between school officials and the Marks Project, 3 Ole Miss Tutors were secured for the Saturday before the test date.

Quitman County Career & Health Fair

Faculty and students from the University of Mississippi recently helped coordinate and host the fair to educate Marks-area high school students and community members on career opportunities and healthy living.
The career and health fair stemmed from the university’s partnership with the Marks Project.

McLean Business Plan Proposals
Five students from Madison S. Palmer High School presented their business plans at the fourth annual Rural Entrepreneurship Forum in Oxford, MS. The University of Mississippi is currently working with high school students in Quitman County as part of the inaugural Kids in Business (KiB) program.

Marian Wright Edelman Comes to Marks
Marian Wright Edelman will be in Marks to assess the health and food insecurities of the children of Quitman County. The University of Mississippi Medical School will provide a healthcare van and doctors. The day will also include a community lunch and a panel discussion, including Curtis Wilke, and Hodding Carter, and the
Marks Project.
RECLAIMED VOLUNTEER PROJECT
The Reclaimed Project is a worldwide mission group, committed to empowering children, supporting families, and strengthening communities. In Marks they embarked on an ambitious project of providing free housing to teachers in the Quitman County school district. In the Spring of 2017 Reclaimed Project hosted a "spring break week" for 50 youth and in June sent 60 middle and high school athletes to a sports camp near Meridian, Mississippi. The Marks Project is a proud partner of Reclaimed Projects.

Alcorn State Planting

In conjunction with the Marks Project and land donated by a local farmer, Alcorn State University planted 25 acres of purple hull peas for disadvantaged farmers to participate in vegetable production.

Crenshaw Summer Tutoring
​
Mrs. Jeanette Crenshaw is starting a tutoring program in Crenshaw. Donations for supplies may be dropped off at the MSU Extension Service on Main Street in Marks. She is requesting pencils, paper, Crayola Dry Markers and Erasers, as well as art supplies, including poster boards, paint, paintbrushes, drawing paper.
